Moodle End-User Notices

Overview:

The Roanoke City Public Schools Division operates the Moodle Course Management System (CMS) through a GNU General Public License. The purpose of the system is solely to deliver instructional and professional development content to bona fide students and staff of the Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) Division. Access to and materials delivered through the system are limited to authorized account holders. Materials may contain both confidential and copyrighted information. As such it is contingent on all users to understand and comply with all Moodle notices. RCPS reserves the right to modify or add notices at any time. It is the responsibility of all account holders to periodically review the Moodle Notices page for any changes or additions.

Student Copyright Notice:

Online coursework may contain material used in compliance with U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U. S. Code). Under the law, materials may not be downloaded, saved, revised, copied, or distributed without permission. These materials are to be used for course instruction only, and are limited to the duration of this course. You may only download or print materials at the direction of your course instructor. You may use the copyrighted materials only for specified course-related purposes and only during the time you are enrolled in this course.

Violation of copyright and fair use laws are strictly prohibited and may result in loss of access privileges to the Moodle system.

Student Privacy and Confidentiality:

Your online participation in any course means you may have access to personal information and academic work produced by other students and the instructor. To protect privacy rights, no personal information, coursework, or other course material should be revealed to anyone not enrolled in your class or used for any purpose beyond its original intent.

Unauthorized viewing, reproduction, and or disclosure of any student information obtained from this system are strictly prohibited and may result in loss of access privileges.

Instructor Copyright Notice:

The individual instructor is responsible for ensuring that all materials posted to their course/section on the Moodle system is in compliance with U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S. Code). Copyrighted materials are to be used for course instruction only, and are limited to the duration of this course. All instructors are responsible for notifying students enrolled in your course/section of their rights and limitations for downloading, saving, revising, copying, or distributing materials found on the Moodle system. Additionally all instructors are required to meet all fair use guidelines for posting, distributing, or otherwise handling copyrighted materials, including those found on the Internet/World Wide Web.

Instructor Confidentiality:

The Moodle system may contain confidential student information. The data in this system are protected by state and federal laws and must be maintained in a confidential manner at all times. As an employee of a K-12 Virginia school division who has access to records in this system, you are required to maintain this information in a confidential manner. The unauthorized access to, modification, deletion, or disclosure of information from this system may compromise the integrity of the system, violate individual student privacy rights, and violate state and federal law.
